IMSO and the development of particulate sootfilters
IMSO started developing particulate sootfilters in 1999, after the demand for such filters came from our customers in the shipping trade.
The demand came from these customers because IMSO develops exhaust filters for water cooled engines since 1987.
Self-regenerating, simplicity and dependability are key factors for developing the particulate sootfilters
The filters have been tested on a DAF 1700 engine. This motor is known for it's soot emission.
The result showed that the emission of soot particles decreased by 75-90%.
Next in the development was raising the dependability by adding a by-pass safety-valve.
If normal operation is prohibited, the gases are routed through a by-pass channel. The problem can be fixed when convenient.
Silencing has been increased by further tweaking the design. At this moment the filters can silence up to 56 dBa.
Lately the particulate sootfilter has been tested according to EU rules and the sootfilters comply to ARBO rules:
no loss of power, no higher fuel consumption, a fair amount of silencing and a significant reduction of soot particles in the exhaust gases.
Development never stops: every day IMSO is working on the design of the particalte sootfilters, so every
diesel engine can have a proper sootfilter!
